A VINTAGE HEART and More SNIPS AND SNAILS

Happy July 1st!
This generally marks the date that summer arrives here in Washington State, although we will continue to hold our breath. Smiles...

I know it has been a while since I posted, yet again, but I really needed to buckle down and study for my 2nd PT (Personal Trainer) Certification Test, which I passed last Thursday, although not without a whole bunch of stress and perhaps even some hair loss. LOL! I am so glad that this one is behind me and proud to say that I am now a PT II. I plan to read fiction and color in coloring books for the rest of the summer...Smiles...

I am rushing through to share my newest Digital Products with you today because once this post is complete, I have a few more files to transfer to my new external hard drive and then...then...sigh...Well, then it is time to, oh I can barely say it...ReFoRmAt the hard drive. Just saying it strikes terror in my heart. Something goes wrong each and every time, no matter what safeguards we put in place. If I don't add a new post within 7 days, you will know why. Please cross your fingers for me...

I finally managed to squeeze in some designing time and finished a new kit. My new career as a Certified Personal Trainer has been keeping me pretty busy, but I have definitely been missing my "Creative Outlet". I hope all of you have plenty of time to scrap this weekend, and, hopefully, you have more spare pennies than I do right now and can enjoy all of the fabulous sales going on in DigiLand! Smiles...

I am late getting this update posted for a couple of reasons. We have been getting literally pounded by torrential rains here in Washington, along with thunder, lightning, hail, the whole shamoley. At times, it has been as dark as night during the daytime...LOL! During the worst moments, I vacate this little office because the noise is deafening and pine cones sound like mortars hitting the roof...In other words, I run like a scared little bunny...Giggles...

When I prepared to post earlier, the DSB Designers received an email from Sweetmade to let us know that our store was down completely. It appears to have been a data base issue, but I truly know nothing of these things and was just thankful to hear we had not been hacked, since this seems to be happening more often to digital scrap sites. Why these guys would want to pick on Scrapbookers is beyond me, but I have noticed that they seem to target sites that are generally more important to women. Perhaps they feel threatened when we bond over artistic ventures? Who knows...

I honestly doubt if I will have time to get a blog gift together - I really want to take a little break and do some scrapping of my own in between spending time with DH. My Sweetie has a job interview on Wednesday - If hired, he will be working for the State of Washington and I will be adapting to taking the Metro to work. I will certainly miss having My Love at home on a daily basis, but our bills will get paid a lot faster with both of us employed full time. Then, perhaps, someday...(dreaming out loud), I can scale back my hours and spend more time designing, scrapping, writing and working around our home. I am desperate to complete the Heritage Books for my children, but I am almost certain this will not happen by Christmas. I'll share a few pages I have completed (I think) soon, so I can hopefully get some opinions and perhaps a little help. Smiles...I have learned to save as PSD's now so I can change up until I send them to be printed. My tastes have started changing again where layouts are concerned. I used to add so much color, even to Heritage Pages, but lately, I don't know, I am drawn to darker, starker, less busy...Another phase I am going through.

I, as usual, am struggling with time management and still fighting an upper respiratory infection that just won't seem to go away. Life of a "BAD BLOGGER", News AND, a FREEBIE

Ah...Where shall I begin since my last post was forever ago...Sigh...Playing catch up is a daunting task. Truth be told, this entire blog needs a MAKEOVER! But I digress.
Many of you already know this story, so I will attempt to add a condensed version of 2009 in this post so I can get on with the more exciting news, previews, and, a FREEBIE for all of you.
Back in February, my DH had to close his restaurant, which he had owned with 2 partners for over 35 years. The poor economy finally took its toll, along with the extreme weather we experienced here in Washington State from November through February. Needless to say, this was a devastating blow to his mental state, not to mention our finances. Being the positive people we both are, it didn't take long to find a silver lining or two. First and Foremost, we finally got to spend our weekends together! YEAH! DH was finally able to spend time at home on projects he has been wanting to accomplish for several years. The benefits really do go on and on.
Mid February, I started working at 24 Hour Fitness, figuring, if nothing else, our gym memberships would be free! The new schedule definitely put a crimp in my designing and scrapping time, but overall, I have no complaints about my job. I am PROUD to be associated with a company that helps people change their lives, LOVE the people I work with and am treated very well. BONUS: I have lost 34 pounds in 4 months time and am back in the 120's! HOORAY FOR ME!
I have an Absolutely ADORABLE new Grandson, Porter Jude, who is nearing 6 months old. I have photos of him at FACEBOOK - Look me up - Laurie Ann Wells Phinney - I'll be happy to add you to my list of friends!
I am still designing at every opportunity and have added several new kits to my store at DigiScraps-N-More. I'll share some previews after my next bit of news...Smiles...
Recently, DigiScrapBoutique had a Designer Call, and on a whim, I applied. I was accepted and feel honored to be selling in a venue with so many talented designers. More UGLY DUCKLING Freebies

What a day! I nearly drove myself insane working on two layouts, which I intended to be quite simple for the sake of expediency. Of course, once I had the photos on the backgrounds, I got a bright idea...One that had me tearing my hair out and banging QWERTY into my forehead all the live long day...LOL! Neither page is finished, but I can laugh about the situation now, knowing that when others finally get to view these pages, they will have absolutely no idea the stress involved in their creation. In the meantime, my daughter-in-law sent me the most adorable pictures of my son and granddaughter at the Punkin' Patch today and I am so anxious to start playing with them!!! DH has the day off tomorrow, so we will be busy with other things...hopefully, outdoors, if the weather cooperates. Finally Back With FREEBIES !!!

Popping in quick like a bunny to add the final addition to the Nursery Rhyme Freebies. Spent two entire days in bed, and am assuming I was suffering from a mild kidney or bladder infection. Drank lots of water and cranberry juice, got up today, showered, took a walk with My Love and feel just about 100 percent better. First of all, in response to Deadrose's comment: "Boy, wasn't it fun yesterday! Awfully early in the season for winds like that... I'm in Seattle, and my husband and I sat down in a cafe to eat - just as we were placing our order, the power went out. *sigh* I wanted that cuban sandwich so badly, but they're grilled." BUMMER about the sandwich...It hurts especially when you are so looking forward to something YUMMY! Smiles... Which cafe were you at? DH and I are always interested in new places to try! We are almost neighbors - We live in Shoreline, which used to be Seattle...LOL! My husband is co-owner of Barnaby's in Tukwila, so needless to say, food is an important part of our lives. Too much so...sigh...

Now on to tonight's FREEBIE, which will be another small series of an age old nursery rhyme that helped many a generation learn how to count. Personally, I learned in my Grandmother's Button Tin, and now suffer from a very serious addiction - Collecting Vintage Sewing Buttons.Primitive little sketches, but I find them charming. It May Seem an Exaggeration, But Pine Cones Can Sound Like Bowling Balls Hitting the Roof! LOL! Our Yard and Driveway Are Covered With Small Limbs and Needles. It Doesn't Sound Like Much...The Gusts Were 40 mph With Sustained Winds of 30 Some Odd mph For Several Hours. A Prelude of Things to Come, No Doubt. I Was in a Flow Working On My Newest Kit, So Was Disappointed When I Had to Walk Away. I Have Another Batch of Alice For You - I Think This is the Last of the Illustrations From This Book. TEA With ALICE and FRIENDS - FREEBIES

Happy Birthday Mama! Today would have been my Mother's 75th Birthday. We lost her just a month and a half after her 62nd birthday to pneumonia, and I still relive that day as if it just happened yesterday. Mom's ashes live here with us in the cottage, and although this may seem a bit macabre, their presence is a comfort to me. She sits on the top shelf of our closet with my father...(they were officially divorced in 1966, but had not lived together since I was a baby...a good many years prior...Smiles...), my Uncle Gale, Mom's older brother, and my husband's mother, Grace. Party in the House Tonight! Smiles...

And So I Shall...Smiles...
First an update...I talked to my future son-in-law on the phone tonight and he is doing very well. Of course, he is one of those kind of guys who would say that to make everyone else feel better, but the outlook is encouraging. His condition has been a wake up call for the entire family, which is a good thing. We are all on a campaign to get more exercise, eat well, yada yada...LOL! My Love and I try very hard to be good...we are old enough and wise enough to be aware of what we have to do...We just go in phases and on occasion, slip up in a big way. Sigh... The treadmill comes out of retirement this week since the weather will be turning surly, which takes the fun out of our usual walks. Thank You From the Bottom of My Heart to those of you who sent prayers and well wishes! Now, on to tonight's FREEBIE as I am working on a new kit that I want to have finished by early next week at the latest. I think it is going to be "Beautiful" I swear I have been having flashbacks to childhood ever since I began scanning and extracting these graphics. I can picture the bedroom that I shared with my brother in the old apartment building at 916 Yale Avenue North. I can smell the myriad of combined ethnic meals as our neighbors prepared their suppers - I grew up in a very multicultural neighborhood. Going back has been a pleasant journey. ALICE is BACK With More FREEBIES

October 3rd...WOW! We have been Absolutely Blessed with 3 Beautiful, Sunshiny Days in a row. Two we spent at local beaches. Today, I stayed inside of the house, waiting for an update on my future son-in-law, whom I adore. My daughter's fiance is just 44 years old, appears to be the picture of health, but in just three short weeks has undergone two open heart surgeries to open blocked arteries. Today was his second surgery and I felt physically ill while waiting for news from my sweet sweet girl. This man has made my daughter so happy, treats her the way every mother dreams her daughter will be treated, is an honest, forthright and absolutely hilarious human being. He simply MUST be O.K. He simply MUST!!! LOVE YOU DOUG!

Here is another installment of ALICE IN WONDERLAND for your memories and scrapping pleasure. I hope you enjoy these vintage graphics - I do love sharing them with you. I am working on two new kits but these are going to take some time to complete...I can visualize all of the things I want to include, and they won't happen overnight. Smiles... It was a beautiful day here in Washington State...Well, with the exception of finding out that a Racoon hit our Koi Pond again last night. Right now it is still too murky to see if all of our "Phinney" children are still in there. I hope so, as we are rather attached to them. The last time this happened we lost Koi that we had for three years and they were quite large. It was devastating, so we cleverly devised a bamboo screen that we can lower over the pond at night. Ahhhhh...complacency...guess who forgot to put it down last night. Another big sigh...

LIFE! My How Time Flies! New Store and New Kits

I don't know where the time goes. Given that I hear this same quote from so many others, I gather I am not alone in pondering this mystery...Thank Goodness.
So much has happened in the past month, and then again, not much at all. Smiles...Cryptic, eh? Not really, but the majority of it is every day, mundane details that mean something to me, but would bore my visitors to tears.
Part of my disappearance from the face of cyber earth has been due, in part, to preparing new designs for my new store. It has finally opened...Not the official Grand Opening mind you, but we are getting our goodies added to the shelves and the shopping cart is in working order, ready and waiting. During the process I retired from 3Scrapateers as the time had come to admit to myself that I have limitations. Huh? I found myself stressing out about keeping all 3 of my stores filled with completely different designs. Knowing that I want to really dedicate myself to the new store, heart and soul, helped make my decision easier, but it is difficult to let go. I have enjoyed my time at 3S very much and have nothing but positive things to say about the experience, the staff and community as a whole. I have a couple more tough decisions to make before all is said and done.
This new shop already holds a special place in my heart as it represents a HOMECOMING of sorts. DigiScrapsNMore is owned by Tina Williams. It is because of Tina that I harbored one iota of hope that I could be a digital designer someday. She brought me into her old store (in her past life...smiles...), and gave me the opportunity to test my wings. I will be forever grateful for I have truly found my niche. So here we are today, having come full circle - Tina beginning a whole new life, and myself, beginning to find my own unique voice and recognizing that it is my style, come what may. I am choosing to embrace it! My first addition to the digi-shelves therefore, is a kit featuring a theme that is near and dear to my heart...SWEET HOMECOMINGS.

Summer Storm Brings Early 4th of July Fireworks

Happy 4th of July Scrappin' Friends!
Here in Washington State, We Had an Early Display of Mother Nature's Fireworks in the Form of THUNDER and LIGHTNING That Lasted From Early Evening, Throughout the Night. It Began as Dry Lightning, But the Late Night Show Brought a Deluge of Rain With It - OH MY! Summer Storms Themselves Are Not That Big of an Anomaly I Suppose, But This Was the First Time in My Entire 53 Years of Being a Washintonian That I Actually Heard a REAL Message From the EMERGENCY BROADCASTING SYSTEM, Warning How Dangerous This Storm Would Be! WOW! I Actually Thought it Was a Joke as My Love and I Were Watching Jimmy Kimmel and Steve Corel When the Alarms and Messages Began Right Over the Top of the Show. I Have Seen and Heard the Test Alarms Ever Since Childhood, Which Frightened Me When I Was Younger, But That Was During the Cuban Missile Crisis Era. They Weren't Even Called Into Play Two Years Ago When We Had Sustained Gale Force Winds For 24 Hours Straight, Causing Massive Damage, and Sadly, Loss of Lives.

We Went Outside Several Times to Watch the Sky Light Up All Around Us - The Storm Was Quite a Good Distance Away. Around 1:30 a.m., as I Was Preparing to Work on My New Kit, I Heard a Long Rumbling of Thunder and it Was Definitely Moving Closer. Within Minutes the Storm Was Right Over the Top of Our House, and the Real Light Show Began. Saved My Work and Shut Down My Computer. Smiles... I Am Generally Not Afraid of Storms, But it Does Cross My Mind That the Tall Trees Surrounding Our Cottage Are a Favored Strike Point When Dear Mother Nature Lets Her Hair Down. I Admit, I Did Step Outside Again to Have a Look, But Not For Long. The Skies Opened Up and the Warm Rain Began - With Attitude - Truly the Largest Drops I Have Ever Seen/Felt! I Decided to Go to Bed But it is Difficult to Sleep With What Sounds Like a Never Ending Train Wreck Above Your Roof. LOL! The Birds Were Chirping By the Time I Drifted Off... I Am Thankful For the Rain Though. After a Week and a Half of Extremely Hot Weather, We Needed a Deep Watering For Our Plants...Not to Mention How Much Safer We Will Feel About All of the Fireworks Being Set Off, in Particular, the Bottle Rockets.

I Would Like to Thank the Three Very Special Ladies Who Left Such Lovely Comments For Me After My Recent Update and Additions. One in Particular, Literally Brought Tears to My Eyes and Made My Heart Swell With Emotion.

My Love Has the Day Off, So We Will Be Working/Playing in Our Yard, Grilling Something YUMMY and Watching Everyone Else's $$$ Go Up With a Bang! LOL! Wishing Everyone a Beautiful and Safe Independence Day, Filled With the Joy and Laughter of Loved Ones! May GOD Bless America...Land That I Love...

Back From Vacation With a Special New Kit - "COLEFLOWER"

We are back from our most fabulous, memorable family vacation. I have so much to share with everyone, from adventures to photos, but this process, by the sheer scope and magnitude of it all, will take time. We took over 1000 pictures and I don't know where to start. LOL! In the meantime, I would like to share previews of my newest kit, "COLEFLOWER" This kit is very near and dear to my heart as I created it for one very special human being:

I created Coleflower for a very talented scrapper, who's beautiful layouts have literally taken my breath away! She provided me with a color palette of her current favorite colors, and I have attempted to take it from there. FINALLY! New Year, New Computer and a NEW KIT !!!

I have been going quite crazy since our old computer gave up the ghost shortly before Christmas. I honestly didn't know what to do with myself...LOL! Is that sad? I will be able to design more quickly now, which doesn't mean I will be pumping out the new kits, although I have enough ideas to last a lifetime! It is a much easier process with our new HP, and highly more enjoyable. I will get back into the Freebie creating mood soon too! Well, that's about it for today - I have more designing to do, and LOTS of catching up on layouts, in particular, Royanna's 40 Days of Scrapping Purpose at Divine Digital. I was right on schedule with my pages until the demise of rust bucket.

P.S. I forgot to mention that My Blog looks completely different with my new system! I am not really pleased either. Can someone tell me if the hot pink on either side of the main portion has always been there? I never saw that before - I had one solid page, which I liked, and the sidebar on the right. Now everything looks funkified, and I don't mean that in a "cool" way.

Hello Again Dear Scrappin' Friends!
I have just received the most wonderful news! My Sweet Niece Jennifer just called from Wisconsin! She was in the car, with my Precious New Great Nephew, Tevin, and they were headed home from the hospital! I am bubbling over with JOY! It has been a long road since his premature birth on 30 October. Tevin comes home weighing slightly over 6 lbs. 4 oz., and must be on a Heart Monitor for a while, but he is HOME! HOME - Isn't that a Beautiful Word? Smiles... PLUS, I now have several more of his birth pictures to scrap and Jenny is sending me another disc full - His baby Book is going to grow and grow, just like our little early man. Sigh... Life is Good...

Happy Hump Day Scrappin' Friends ~
Trying to get this gift up a little earlier today. If you have been watching the National News, the experts are saying that here in Washington State they are launching one of the biggest rescue operations since Hurricane Katrina. The destruction is unbelievable, and in many places, the waters keep rising. Levees are failing and the situation has really not improved. My daughter works in a care facility in Grays Harbor County and they are out of toilet paper. They cannot get gas. The boss cannot reach them with their payroll. And still, they are among the lucky ones. Puts things in perspective... I could go on and on, but I won't. My Love is home today, so I am going to finish up here and spend time with him. I continue to Count My Blessings that my children and grandchildren are safe, even though their comfort zones are less than ideal. Good Evening Scrapping Friends -
When it Rains, it Pours! Pun Intended. Smiles... Here in Washington, we have Salmon swimming on the highways. FOR REAL! What an amazing and determined fish, our Mighty Salmon... As humans, we would do well to learn from their example. The rain has finally subsided, but the impact of our record setting downfall will continue for some time. Many families will be without power for a week or more, my children in Grays Harbor County included. Entire towns are cut off from amenities as they have become Islands. Lives have been lost... I don't know what else to say.
My Wacom Pen quit working today and I was beside myself as I have forgotten how to use my mouse. Smiles... My Darling Son Matt stopped by to visit and reinstalled the drivers for me. VOILA! How spoiled I have become...

Happy Monday Scrappin' Friends!
I am a bit late today with my Christmas FREEBIE, as we are experiencing some severe weather extremes here in Western Washington. In a period of 48 hours, we have gone from the low 30's and snow, to nearly 60 degrees. Along with the warmer temperatures, we are in the middle of a major wind and rain storm. We have received over 4 inches since last night! My Love and I are in a fairly safe location, with the exception of high winds and tall trees - They don't mix. My children all live in the harder hit areas, prone to flooding and higher winds. They are dealing with the brunt of the storm. There were 100 mph winds in Grays Harbor County, the power is out, roads are flooding - It is just plain ugly. My daughter called me a little while ago...She is looking for a third detour home because of road closures. Hillsides are giving away, sink holes are appearing, trees are toppling. Our lights have been flickering, so once I get your Giftie added, I am shutting down my computer just in case. (Special Prayers to my blog visitor from Woodinville - I know you are in one of the regions that is facing floodwaters.)
